Introduction
The telecommunication and computer industries
have created a market for advanced rechargeable batteries and
grow at about 20-30% per year. This US$4 billion a year market
is technology driven with OEMs demanding more and more performance
from the batteries. The market has switched from Nickel Cadmium
to nickel Metal Hydride based batteries, and lately to Lithium-ion
Batteries. The demand for Lithium-ion batteries grew
from 100 million cells a year in 1996 to 700 million in 2001
The latest technological
advance in the field of Lithium-ion batteries is a new, improved
type of Lithium Ion technology, Polymer Lithium-ion (PLI).
Invented by Bell Communication Research ("Bellcore"),
one of the largest research companies in the US, PLI batteries
are now safer; perform better, and more cost-effective.
Our target customers will be cellular
phone replacement battery vendors and the Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEM). We also plan to develop customized products
for new devices in the cellular phone, laptop and related
portable segment of market either as an OEM or on a co-development
basis.
